August 2026 - Unexpected issue in Unity 6.5.x

In Unity versions between 6.5.x and 6000.5.8, emojis may render as solid black when using the Light theme (Unity Issue: UUM-147842). This issue has been officially resolved in Unity 6000.5.9f1 and newer. If you are using an older affected version, switching to the Dark theme will display them correctly.
I'm really glad they didn't delay the fix! Taking my time to report this bug and put together a repro scene definitely paid off. 😀

* Applies to both category browsing and search
* Category buttons with no emoji for the selected version are disabled
* Dingbats are shown with any version
* Default: Up to Unicode Emoji 15.0 — the range Unity renders in color (see "Known Limitations")

Known Limitations:
Emoji added in Unicode Emoji 17.0 (🫪 🫯 🫈 🫍 🛘 🪊 🪎) are rendered in grayscale by the Unity Editor: Unity's built-in emoji table does not include them yet (Unity 6.4 supports up to Emoji 16.0; Unity 6.6 only up to Emoji 15.x, so Emoji 16.0 characters are grayscale there as well). The characters themselves are correct and will display in color once Unity updates its emoji data. Use the version filter to show only emoji your Unity version renders in color.
